Finger Painting and Rocket Science

And some recent highlights:

During last week's science curriculum we went through our daily trash, recorded what was recyclable, truly trash and might be reusable. This week Tris is turning the reusables into a science project- he chose to make a rocket-ship (pictured).

Campfire Cookies

We are totally going try and make these sometime soon. This is a picture Trevor took of one of the cookies made in the bakery at work last week. I think the boys would have so much fun with these ;-)

Tristian Missouri GLE/CLE Math Pretest Results (98%)

Got Tristian's pretest results and he scored in the 98 percentile in 2nd Grade Math, the same percentile as his 2nd Grade Language Arts pretest results. The test suggests Tristian is ready to learn skills ranging from 4th Grade to Algebra II. Not sure how that wide a range works. I would personally put Tristian's ability and where he's comfortable as being around 5th Grade, depending.

Lowes Build and Grow Binoculars

The boys got to make binoculars at Lowes Build and Grow this last Saturday. Such a cool project and it's housed in a wooden box frame so should actually last for quite a while ;-)

Trace's Baby (from the baby store)

We were at Khols because we had a $10 off $10 coupon about to expire. I went and was browsing through the baby section while Trevor was looking at his stuff and we split the boys, I got Trace.

We get to the baby stuff and suddenly Trace starts saying "My baby wants this." and "I want this for my baby." I asked what baby and Trace replied, "My baby from the baby store". We've talked some about how Aunt Tracy and Aunt Devin are going to have babies. I repeated that and said, "but we aren't having a baby." Trace says, "Aunt Devin's baby is my baby. We're going to the baby store to get a baby then I'm going to help take care."

Tristian's MO GLE/CLE Assessment Scores, Lang Arts- 98%

Tristian took his pretests for the Missouri GLE/CLE tests yesterday and they came back today. We use these tests to fill the 'record of assessment' requirement for Missouri Homeschool Laws. He scored in in the 98 percentile compared to national results for Second Graders. At the end of the test assessment results it suggests that Tristian is ready to learn mostly 5th grade Language Arts material (which is about where we are on average on our supplemental learning) with 4 out of 70 skills showing ready to learn 4th grade objectives and 4 out of 70 showing as ready to learn 6th grade objectives. The remaining 62 are Grade 5 objectives.

The last two years Tristian has been in the Tae Kwon Do Jr class. Today will be his first day in the Tae Kwon Do class for older kids. He gets to wear a martial arts uniform now ;-)

So exciting and he looks so grown up!

$5 Popcorn and Candy Bouquet Gift Set

These are a nice little it's the thought that counts candy and popcorn bouquets. They cost us about $5 each to make and can be made early. With candy and packaged popcorn both having shelf life of about a year so making them a little early still gives the giftee plenty of 'best by' time.

Happy (late) 3rd Bday Ella!

We went to what is probably the last water party of the season on Tuesday.

It was a nice way to end our first day of homeschool ;-) and we loved getting to celebrate Ella's 3rd birthday with her!

Happy 30th Birthday Trevor!!!

Trevor turned 30 years old today! He was pretty grumpy about it yesterday but seems to have bowed to the inevitable today and is in a much better mood ;-) Love you whether you are grumpy or not, honey =) Hope your next year is wonderful!
